PART ONE: Converting from the protestant tradition to the Catholic church was one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life. It is also one of the most difficult. Have you converted from Protestantism to Catholicism?
Are you finding difficulties or roadblocks? Are you experiencing endless obstacles, whether from yourself or others? If so, keep reading because I’m going to share the difficulties I have had to solve that may help you overcome them. My story may also help you to continue in faith in Jesus Christ and remain within the one holy and apostolic Catholic Church.
Our Relationship with Jesus Christ
The first thing to consider in this regard is our relationship with Jesus Christ. There are many people whom I have met who were born into the Catholic church and were baptised as children. They therefore assume they are automatically fit for heaven.
These people do not have a relationship with God, nor do they want one. They never attend church or desire to live a holy life. But those of us who are converts understand that Christianity has nothing to do with our hereditary status. But rather everything to do with our repenting of our sins, and our personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
As a new convert, we can look at cradle Catholic families and feel that we wish we had been born into a solid Catholic family. But your reality may be very different. Perhaps your family might be estranged from you because of your faith. Or your family may be protestants and really don’t understand your decision to become Catholic.
Maybe your family or even friends have chosen to distance themselves from you because they just can’t understand what’s going on. These are only a few scenarios we may find ourselves in as a result of choosing to express our faith in Christ through the Catholic Church.
Estrangement is a very lonely road. And sometimes it can be quite confusing. But the good thing is that you’re not under the illusion that you are automatically saved because you’re brought up in a Catholic church and baptised when a baby. The great thing to know is that you have a personal relationship with Jesus. Because that is what enriches your life now, and gets you to heaven. I encourage you to watch my YouTube video below. Who Started the Christian Church?
Let’s face it, the Catholic Church is the church Jesus founded some 2,000 years ago. We must be mindful that the breakaway Protestant’ movement’ is the one that Luther started only 500 years ago. So really, you have made the right choice. Despite the challenges that you face, you’ve made the ‘only’ choice because you wanted to deepen your relationship with Lord Jesus Christ. So take heart. 🫶
At times of loneliness and despair, you may wonder whether you’ve done the right thing or not. When despair comes, think back to the beginning. Go back to your relationship with Christ. You’ve made this decision because you want Christ more than ever. You want to be like Him. You desire to rejoice in His eternal presence here through the Holy Eucharist and in heaven.
Celebrate and thank God for His grace and the mercy that you have made the right decision. Thank God that your name is written in the book of life. Be grateful that God has led you throughout your life to this point of decision, to be part of his one, holy, Catholic and apostolic church. And realise what you have gained through your decision. The benefits are far greater than anything that you have lost.
