Are You a Truth Seeker? If so, you will find this article of interest. I pray that God will help you grow in his grace this day- Enjoy!
The scribe said to him, “Well said, teacher. You are right in saying, ‘He is One, and there is no other than he.’ And ‘to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbour as yourself’ is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.” Mark 12:32–33.
This scribe understood the essence of Jesus’ message. He approached Jesus with a question after some Sadducees had tried to challenge Jesus regarding the resurrection of the dead.
While the Sadducees aimed to trap Jesus, this scribe listened intently to His response and recognised its wisdom. He then asked Jesus, “Which is the first of all the commandments?”
In reply, Jesus summarised the entire law of God, emphasising the importance of loving God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, and loving our neighbour as ourselves.
We should strive to emulate this scribe. It took courage for him to support Jesus, especially since many other scribes openly opposed Him.
By expressing his agreement with Jesus’ teachings, he risked facing criticism. Yet, he seemed unfazed by that risk. He was genuinely seeking the truth, and Jesus acknowledged his sincerity by saying, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”
How to live truth in our secular society,
In our increasingly secular society, many of God’s truths are being questioned and challenged.
Finding common ground on moral truths is becoming less common. Consequently, those who seek the truth may encounter hostility simply for their beliefs.
Many discover that even a refusal to endorse objective immorality can make them targets in a secular world. Are you a seeker of truth?
Are you someone who seeks the truth?
Do you recognise the divine truths of God when they are presented to you?
If so, do you possess the courage to pursue those truths?
Do you have the faith to express them in alignment with God’s will in front of others?
Evangelisation differs from proselytism. While proselytism involves a forceful and confrontational approach to sharing God’s truths.
It often lacks respect for others’ freedom and dignity, but evangelisation is a vital practice for every follower of Christ.
At its core, evangelisation is about sincerely and humbly seeking the truth in every circumstance.
An evangeliser does not attack or criticise others. An Evangelist strives to understand the complete truth themselves and share it openly with those who are receptive.
In many respects, this scribe exemplified this approach. He listened, sought understanding, asked questions, and then shared his faith in what Jesus taught.
Those who heard him, particularly other scribes, may not have agreed with his interpretations.
They might have even critiqued him privately. However, this scribe’s testimony could have inspired others who were listening, opening their minds and hearts.
Some may have felt his openness, understanding, and joyful demeanour, allowing his dialogue with Jesus to positively influence them.
By earnestly seeking the truth, this scribe also evangelised others, and Jesus commended him for his efforts.
Take a moment today to reflect on how you share your faith with others.
Do you find yourself being argumentative and judgmental? Or do you let the joy of your own discovery of God’s truths guide your evangelisation?
Strive to be a seeker of Truth, doing so with openness and joy. If you embrace this approach, others will recognise the divine truths within you and be encouraged to pursue their own truth-seeking journeys.
Lord of all Truth, in You alone will we find the truths that liberate us. Grant me the grace and courage to continually seek the truth. Amen
